For the last few months I have not been able to use youtube on my login. If i log onto my mums account it works fine. I also struggle with Photobucket, twitpic's and some avatars. I cant find any reason for it :(

I used to find that deleteing my cookies/internet files & restarting used to allow me on youtube until I closed the window then I couldnt get back on.

I followed the troubleshoot and restarted the laptop. Now im getting

 

" Internet explorer can not display the webpage" :(

Does this new error happen only on the certain websites you mentioned, or does it happen randomly?

 

You could try uninstalling the google toolbar to see if the problem goes away.

I think its random. Like on skynews.co.uk it will play some videos and not others. I originally thought it was a flash or java fault but iv uninstalled and reinstalled them and its not changed

Ok, just a guess, but are you using wireless?

 

It sounds like you have a flaky connection that drops sometimes, which is usually caused by a weak wireless signal.

Yeah its wireless. I just dont get why everyting works on mums account and not mine. She's spent hours on youtube this evening and all I get is error messages :( could anything be wrong with me IE settings?

I just installed firefox to try that and I can get Youtube to open but when i try to play a video I get

 

Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.

If another account on the same machine works fine then it shouldn't be the wireless.

 

Have you ever been able to veiw flash videoes from your own account? Do you know if you have flash player installed?

I used to be able to when I first got the laptop. Then I had a problem (cant remember what anymore) and the guy at PC World support got me to put my laptop back a week and it hasn't worked properly since.

 

I just googled a flash test and everything worked as it should and it says I have java version 1.6.0_15

If you can veiw flash animations, but not flash vidoes, you might have an old version of flash player installed.

 

Try downloading and installing the latest flash player from adobe's website, then trying youtube again.

still nothing :( WIN 10,0,32,18 is the version I have. I tried IE and FFOX and still getting same messages.

Java Tester - What Version of Java Are You Running?

Just used this to check my jave is turned on (like firefox askes) and I can see the pink box and it says

"java version: 1.6.0_15 from Sun microsystems inc"

It seems you have more going on than just youtube problems but this might address that issue.

I would run the uninstaller, reboot then reinstall from the stand alone installer. But read everything and try everything.

By followin them links iv now got Youtube working on firefox :-D But still nothing in IE. I cant view any pics from twitter or Youtube

Have you tried installing the stand-alone package for IE as well from the links above?

I installed flash for IE and Firefox. Would re-installing IE help?!

One thing I have read is that there are still unresolved issues with IE8 and Youtube.

 

Uninstalling IE8 may correct this but I can not say for sure. Also uninstalling IE8 may or may not cause other issues. Proceed at your own risk and even then set a restore point first.

 

As it has been a few months I doubt a System Restore point before this issue arised will be available but you could check. Keep in mind that you would have to choose a point that is older than what is listed in the first window.

 

But seriously this might be an IE8 issue. But so hard to be sure.

I wonder if this is to do with security settings under Tools in internet explorer?

 

Tools/internet options/security and privacy tab and also check under advanced tab there maybe a setting issue.

 

Or even a popup blocker issue.

 

Active X control?

 

Just thought I would check a few things into the mix.

 

Parental control?

 

A youtube under 18 rule?

 

Have you asked mum did she set a parental control?

 

Is youtube added to restricted sites in internet options?

 

The answer is possibly none of the above.

 

Google toolbar could be the problem.Or just plain and simple a broken link due to a bad script in IE8 or even on youtube?

It was me that set all the laptop up & there are no restrictions (as far as I know) Just been on my sisters account n guest account and everything works fine for them, its just me. Im trying to screen grab my screen but I have nowhere to post the grab cause I dont have photoshop :-/ and paint will only let me save as a bitmap which I struggle to upload.

 

Security Settings:

Local Internet - Medium Low

Trusted Sites - Medium

Restricted Sites - high

 

Privacy Settings

Internet Zone - Low

Popup Blocker is on

In Private

Do Not Collect Data - Not Ticked

Disable toolbars and extensions wen InPrivate Browsing Starts - Ticked

Hi Elaine, This is nothing to do with your present problem, I will leave that to those who are already working on that, but you mention you have a problem with getting screenshots.

 

There is a splendid little program called MWSnap, you can download it free from here-

Mirek's Free Windows Software

 

MWSnap 3 is the second one down the list.

Once downloaded, installed, and opened, you will see "Any rectangular area" on the left, click that, then "Snap any area" and you can then use your mouse pointer to lassoo any area, click once done and you will be presented with a snapshot of that area, just click file, then "save as". Select JPEG from the drop down menu, then save to whatever folder you have for uploading to here.
