Plastic Nev Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Yep it is a lovely neat little program, I use it every time for a screen shot. An idea, I got from a reply Tootech gave to someone else though now, it may be relevant, you never know. I have copied and pasted his advice below Quote- "Check Internet Explorer does not have any proxy server settings entered. To do that Open Internet Explorer Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options. Click the Connections tab, and then click LAN settings. Make sure the Use a proxy server for your LAN check box is unticked." It may not have anything to do with your problem and be unticked, but does no harm to check. Nev. Elaine Posted October 18, 2009 Author Posted October 18, 2009 Thanks. I just checked and it is unticked :( On Twitter I can view pics from YFrog but not twitpic. Its super annoying. there seems to be no reason for it Quote Love Elaine xxx
Goku Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 OK, a couple of questions while I am here. Does the problem persist on all browsers i.e. Firefox and Internet Explorer? When you say it works on your mom's account, do you mean on a different connection or just under another login? Did you make any software / hardware changes before the problem first occurred? Does the error occur on only flash based sites such as YouTube, Metacafe, etc. or is it just random? What security software do you have installed, if any? Please answer the above questions as soon as possible. :) -- Goku Quote
Elaine Posted October 20, 2009 Author Posted October 20, 2009 It was on both browsers but following links on here I got firefox working but IE is still failing. Mum is just under another login we all have the same connections and everything I dont think I made any changes. I had some trouble with my router but belkin helped me fix that and everything started working for everyone else except me. Think it may be random. I can get Youtube or Photobucket at all in IE. I have never been on that metacafe before so I tried it and I could get the videos to play. but some of the images were white boxes with a red X in corner. - which is what happens on twitpic. oooh I cant use amazon either te webpage opens but there are no images (exept ad's) which throws all the page format out...its all wonky. Secuirty I have Norton 360 which came with the laptop and McAfee Is that everyting you needed? I just tried to upload something to photo bucket using Firefox and i got 'A network error caused your upload to fail. Please try your upload again" and I keep trying but get nothing. Goku Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Secuirty I have Norton 360 which came with the laptop and McAfee That is suicidal at th very least. Even if the conflict is not causing the problems, you are still risking yourself by using two security suites. Please uninstall one of them preferably McAfee. If their subscription is over, you would be much better uninstalling both of them as there are plenty of better alternatives. I will elaborate on that later. Meanwhile, please use one of the below uninstallers to uninstall the corresponding security suites. How to uninstall or reinstall supported McAfee consumer products using the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR.exe) How To Uninstall Norton 360Please do so and let us know how it goes. I dont think I made any changes. I had some trouble with my router but belkin helped me fix that and everything started working for everyone else except me. The router is the one that is used to connect other computers too, right? Mum is just under another login we all have the same connections and everything Can you please check with those other sites under different logins and see if they work as well or not? Is that everyting you needed? I just tried to upload something to photo bucket using Firefox and i got 'A network error caused your upload to fail. Please try your upload again" and I keep trying but get nothing. I am suspecting that you might have been infected due to the antivirus clash. I would recommend you to hop over to the Malware Forum just to be sure. Please start a thread there and we will continue again once you have received the "all clear" from Chiaz. :) Hope that helps. -- Goku Quote

RandyL Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 If everything works ok on Firefox then the issue might be with IE8. Have you tried uninstalling IE8 which would revert you to IE7? Elaine Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 If i uninstalled it would it effect my mum's account? she has loads of bookmarks she wont wanna lose and everything works fine with IE8 for her Quote Love Elaine xxx
RandyL Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 My Vista shipped with IE7 installed. If you uninstall IE8 it should revert to IE7 and all the bookmarks would be intact. If you want to be sure and it's a good idea to do it anyway periodically backup IE bookmarks to a file. I do this occasionally and then burn my backups to a disk just in case as I don't want to lose any backups including bookmarks in case my computer or drive fails. 1. Open IE. 2. Click File. 3. Press the Alt key if you do not see File. 4. Click Import and Export. 5. Tic Export to File. 6. Follow the wizard and you can export bookmarks as a file. Use the same method to IMPORT the backed up IE bookmarks file. It's also a good way to put your old bookmarks on a new computer. Make sure you do this for all user accounts. RandyL Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 You could also try restoring the original IE settings. Maynardvdm wrote an article on how to do that for IE7. It's the same for IE8. http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/articles-and-tutorials/2711-reset-restore-advanced-settings-internet-explorer-7-a.html Quote We are all members helping other members.
