Plastic Nev Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Hi Adam, can you tell us a bit more about the computer, make and model? If however if it is a home or local build, you may finish up having to remove the motherboard from the case in the hope there is a label or even etching in the printed circuit underneath to give us a clue. Plus of course, once it is out of the case and cables disconnected, you may then see something more that may have been hidden while inside. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? tricey7 Posted October 19, 2009 Author Posted October 19, 2009 Well... Heres my new problem, The computer is not recognizing the hard drive as being inserted. And i have been told that I need to get the motherboard driver... Now that I know the motherboard is Chaintech 6BTML. Does anyone know where I could get that and how I would install it. Many thanks Adam Quote
tricey7 Posted October 19, 2009 Author Posted October 19, 2009 I cannot use any software, as I cannot get into windows, Basically I am starting from fresh, :) Many Thanks Adam Quote
Jelly Bean Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 If it is an IDE hard drive it realy should not require a driver, well usaly it dont. Could you enter BIOS and check it is listed there and set to first boot device. The problem maybe you need to check internal connections and make sure it is fully connected. It is also possible your hard drive has died. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
tricey7 Posted October 19, 2009 Author Posted October 19, 2009 Should I need any sort of driver for the motherboard? The first thing that started all this was, I tryed installing Windows XP, and It wiped the hard drive. And inside the compter on the motherboard, is it the black or white IDE that comes from the motherboard for hard drives or is that for cd drives/ flopy? Many thanks. Adam Quote
Jelly Bean Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Hey Adam. Usaly on newer mainboards the IDE connection will be blue or a sort of orange colour. However in older mainboards it is usaly white. Are you able to test the hard drive in another computer connecting it as a slave drive? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
tricey7 Posted October 19, 2009 Author Posted October 19, 2009 I have a brand new hard drive, here. Which I got a few months back. I am going to try that out. lol. And also, which format would you recommend formating to e.g. NTFS, Cheers Adam Quote
Jelly Bean Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Do a quick format to NTFS. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
tricey7 Posted October 19, 2009 Author Posted October 19, 2009 New problem. I have installedmy other empty hard drive. I then went into BIOS and it says IDE hard drive auto detection. When I choos this it says primary master, and finds nothing, then primary slav, nothin again, then secondary master and it finds the hard drive. And the jumper is set correctly, anyiideas please Thanks Adam :) Quote
Jelly Bean Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 MMMM I wonder if a BIOS update is needed, but please do not quote me on that one maybe one of the guys can answer that one. Is your computer a brand named one? I wonder what prompted you to attempt a reinstall of the operating system to begin with? Have you tried a diffrent IDE connection? Are you sure the power supply is fully connected? Have you tried a more updated IDE cable? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
tricey7 Posted October 19, 2009 Author Posted October 19, 2009 Its an old computer btw. And the brand I can read is System Works, I got this pc given, by a friend, as he got a new one, and it used to work, i just dont understand how it is reading it as secondary but wont read primaryt :@ Quote
Jelly Bean Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Are you sure you set the jumpers correct to the brand of hard drive?Jumpers are set diffrently in diffrent brands. Did you remove any other hard drive and only place in the one? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
tricey7 Posted October 19, 2009 Author Posted October 19, 2009 Reeet, I have sorted this problem now. i have sorted it so that the motherboard is reading the hard drive correctly, im just gonna try and install Xp now, :) I will keep you on update, lol :) Quote
Jelly Bean Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 That is brilliant. Set first boot to CD rom pop in the disk and save and exit BIOS. Hope it goes well. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
tricey7 Posted October 19, 2009 Author Posted October 19, 2009 reet, I have sorted the hard drive thing out, and i inserted the xp disc and it said "press any key to boot from CD" so i did that and went through loads of setup, then it copied the files to hard drive, then rebooted, then i have been told not to "press any key to boot from cd" on the secind time, and its saying "error reading operating system" please help. Many thanks ADAm Quote
Jelly Bean Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 You did correctly not to press any key the second time.
