Hi, I hope someone can help. I'm trying to install a Voyager 105 USB broadband modem. I've used one before with no problems but have come across another one that I can't install. It's getting power to it via the USB lead and all seems well. I have existing drivers for it but as soon as I run the setup of them it comes up with an error message: "Error loading newdev.dll" followed by another message: "Administrator privileges are required to install, uninstall, or configure the DSL software"

I'm set up as an administrator in User Settings already. What can I do now to get up and running?

Can anyone help as how to get rid of these messages or override the settings?

Hello and welcome back to the forum.

Firstly I would uninstall any of the old setup files and drivers.

Click start/all programms/accessories/admin tools/disk cleanup/check all boxes and run the disk cleanup by clicking ok.

Try downloading from here:

Hi Jelly Bean, thanks for your reply. I've tried clearing old the drivers etc. It took about 30 mins so there must've been quite a bit of junk in there. Still no joy though I'm afraid. I still get the same message coming up. I clicked on your link and started afresh, extracted all the files and ran the SETUP file, but I still get the error messages? Could this be a glitch in the software on in my pc?

Please feel free to add ideas/thoughts, it's much appreciated. Thanks, Jon-Paul.

Let us check for corruption.

Click start and open the run box and type in cmd.

Hit ok button.

Type in the command prompt window sfc /scannow and pop in the XP install disk and hit enter on your keyboard.

This may fix any corruption present or pick up any corrupt files.

Hi again, I did the scan for corruption. It took a while then just ended and disappeared from the screen, so I'm not sure if it's found anything or fixed anything. I got no message after it had finished. I tried uninstalling the Voyager modem software again but got the same error message.

Hi Jonny,

I think its a Service Pack 3 issue - have a look at this link

BT Voyager 105 Modem - Error Loading newdev.dll driver - Installing XP SP3 Fixed

Just Google the error and filename and you'll see.

It's worth trying that fix if you feel comfortable with it.

If not, get on to your broadband supplier and tell them, the Voyager 105 is years old now and perhaps its time they upgraded it for you. It won't work at all with Vista by the way.

Hi, thanks for your help. I haven't tried that fix yet. Just wondering if I could go back to service pack 2 if it doesn't work as I've had a few problems since installing SP3. Thanks again.

Hi, if you go into "Add and Remove programs" make sure the box at the top to show updates has a tick in it, then look for the SP3 and uninstall it. your system should roll back to SP2. If not, let us know as there are other ways to uninstall SP3 if you can't via Add and Remove.
