JELL Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Help please. I’m running windows xp home on my laptop. Turned it on yesterday and it’s knackered. I get “Loading PBR2…..done”. Then the XP logo and blue flashes for a few seconds, then a blank screen with an arrow in the middle. The Caps and Number lock lights are on as is the wifi light, I’ve tried the various start-up options (safe mode etc) and run the internal diagnostics which seem to indicate that there is no error with the laptop itself Will a recovery disc, which I don’t have, solve the problem or would I be better off purchasing and reinstalling XP, in which case will I lose all of my Word and Excel documents. I assume that if I can find a bootable cd that I will be able to retrieve any documents and save them onto a flash drive. That being the case can anyone please recommend a site where I can create a bootable CD Thanks Quote

Tootech Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 I assume that if I can find a bootable cd that I will be able to retrieve any documents and save them onto a flash drive Knoppix is a good one. KNOPPIX Linux Live CD BART is another good one, although you will need a Windows CD to build it. Bart's Preinstalled Environment (BartPE) bootable live windows CD/DVD When you have your data recovered use Ctrl + F11 on boot to get to the recovery partition and reinstall Windows. Quote
