Guest mukeshhtrivedi@gmail.com Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Hi, We have Windows 2003 Standard Server with Service Pack 1 and we have Exchange Server 2003 on that server. Now If I install windows 2003 Service Pack on this service is there any adverse effect on Exchange Server 2003 do I have to take any precautions before I install Service Pack 2 for Windows 2003 Server. When I installed SP2 on my other File Server where we have Veritas Backup Exec 10d was afftected. I was not able to open the Backup Exec. When I restarted all the Backup Exec services after that I tried to open 2 to 3 times Backup exec it worked. So I would like to know is there any problems in installing SP2 on windows 2003 where I have Exchange Server 2003 installed. thanks, Mukesh

Greatly appreicated. So according to MS Article there are some issues but if I update the NIC driver it will solve the problem and if still problem persist I can disable the TCP Chimney. Do you think is it ok if I update the driver and disable the Chimney if I get problems will it bb ok or will I have some other issues too.

Server - Service Pack 2 will affect on Exchange Server 2003 Honestly, I had no problems apply Win2003Server SP2 on my Exchange 2003 server. Perhaps you had an issue with BackupExec as it is not an MS product? However, I actually have BackupExec10d on my Exch 2003 server as well and that was not affected either. I guess there is always a risk, but I have successfully deployed it to multiple servers running many applications (Microsoft and other 3party based applications) etc and never once ran into an issue with it after the install. And never once had an issue with the NIC drivers... BUT you should be aware of the following post-SP2 articles: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947775 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945466 as they relate to the odd issues with the TCP Chimney feature in the SNP. To be safe, I'd get the patch from KB947775 ahead of installing SP2 in the event you see TCP or Chimney related issues as the fix should address them. I expect you to have a very seamless and uneventful migration to SP2. - Thee Chicago Wolf

No issues. Thanks.
