caskin Posted October 21, 2009 Author Posted October 21, 2009 (edited) Caskin have any of the fixes Wolfeymole posted for you on another forum worked? negative.I have tried to get back to Wolfy but so far without success. At the moment i fail to understand as to why my PC has suddenly decided to open and close with classic icons as opposed to normal. The WELCOME page has completely disappeared and although the request for my password is more of a niggle than a problem I would like to ascertain as to why it has occurred, and how can I get back my welcome page and get rid of the classic open and closing pages??? Can this Forum assist as it appears the other is unable to? Edited October 21, 2009 by caskin Quote :pDont try to weather the storm, learn to dance in the rain instead!
Plastic Nev Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Hi caskin, we will try our best. Have you tried this one yet, click start, when the start menu comes up, right click on the top, or if in classic the left hand vertical bar, you should get just one word "Properties", click on that. Next click the "Start menu" tab if it opens on "Taskbar", you will see there a radio button for "Start menu" or "Classic Start menu" make sure the dot is in the Start menu, click "Apply" then OK. see if that has changed it next time you boot up. snow Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Hi Caskin, I've no idea why the welcome page would suddenly stop appearing, unless a program changed some windows settings related to it. Try this first: Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type control userpasswords2, and then click OK. Look at the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" check box. Is the box ticked? If not, then tick it, and re-start. If it is, then untick it, re-start, and re-tick it. Look at the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" check box. Is the box ticked? If not, then tick it, and re-start. If it is, then untick it, re-start, and re-tick it. carried out your instructions as requested, but it wasnt as straight forward as stated? By that I mean there are three user choices in my user account. 1.Adminstrator 2.ASPNET 3.Compaq_Adminstrator. If I unticked the box as suggested it would not allow me to exit without first giving one of the accounts a password??? As my main and only account has always been number 3 I stuck with that one and gave it a password. It stated by doing this it would allow other users to access the PC without a password, not a problem as its only me. So now with box unticked and system requirements met I restarted where I was still met with No welcome page and still a classic page start, but this time showing two classic windows 1.stating account user password not recognised.giving an option of OK or cancel I clicked OK and my usual desktop was displayed.Window 2.Requesting password but in "Fade" mode disappeared as I clicked OK in first window as stated.(Hope you can follow this?) Going back into control passwords2 as requested and reticking box and selecting compaq_adminstrator in accounts. On restart the PC opened again with NO welcome page but allowing me in without requiring a password even though a window displayed requesting one. So at the moment I am back to where I started,PC opens without welcome Page.Classic widow appears requesting password but allows access by clicking OK.PC also closes with classic page?? Whilst I was in the account user page I was curious as to what ASPNET is, as shown as No2 account user?? Quote :pDont try to weather the storm, learn to dance in the rain instead!
