I assume that you mean that you are using Software Restricton

Policies?

Check the EventLog to see exactly which application (+ path) is

denied and by which rule.

Check here for troubleshooting tips and how to enable verbose

logging of Software Restriction Policies:

RE: Launch internet explorer from outlook

Dear Customer,

Thank you for posting in newsgroup.

According to the post, I know the issue is: the system got a error message

when you tried to click on the URLs in an Outlook message. However,

Internet Explorer and Outlook work fine by themselves. Your concern is what

application is needed to launch from within Outlook.

If I have any misunderstanding, please feel free to let me know.

Before we move on, please give some information for the further analysis.

Information Needed:

======================

1. What is the detail error message when you click on the URL in Outlook?

2. Did you designate a group policy with [user Configuration\Administrative

Templates\System\Run only specified Windows applications] to allow only a

specific list of applications?

3. Please run "gpresult /z > D:\gpresult.log" with command-line on the

problematic computer, and then post the context of the log.

3. What is version of Outlook and Internet Explorer in the issue?

Based on the issue, here is some information may be helpful.

Suggestion:

=============

If you have configured approved application by using the "Run only

specified Windows applications" group policy and Internet Explorer 7.0 is

installed, this problem is related to the default key setting of Internet

Explorer 7.0

Cause

Internet Explorer 6 sets that key all in lower case and Internet Explorer 7

defaults to upper case

RESOLUTION

In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\htmlfile\shell\open\command

change "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" -nohome to

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome

Afterward, you'd better reset the computer to let the configuration take

into effect.

More reference:

===============

Hyperlinks do not work in Outlook Express after you upgrade to Internet

Explorer 7

Hope all the information will be helpful.

I look forward to your reply and thank you for your time.

RE: Launch internet explorer from outlook

You nailed it! I changed the registry key on the terminal server and it

works great.

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome

Thx
