how do i stop Defender updates?

every day - task bar - "new updates available"

 

check... its Windows defender

 

i dont use this app (everyone knows it doesnt catch much) and ive gone in under defender/options and said - do not automatically download updates.. but it still does

 

ive also tried to remove it - but its not in add remove - or windows features

 

on the net ive checked and there seems to be many other people wanting to do the same thing - and there are workarounds that include either disabling autoupdate altogether (which i dont want to do) or safe mode / registry editing / rebooting which i also dont really do not wish to do.

 

anyone here found a way to stop the defender update?

 

*there should be the option "do not ask for this update" but there isnt. all you can do is unselect it - and close the window = it comes back and "reminds" you again
