Hello David.

If you use a full install disk or recovery disk then all data would be lost.

Could you connect the hard drive to another computer first and remove all your data?

Restart the computer and repeatedly tap F8 then choose last know good config that worked or safe mode do either of these work for you?

Hello David.

This error appears to point to faulty or incompatible RAM.

If you recently added more RAM remove the stick you fitted see if that helps.

If you have more than one RAM stick installed remove all but one then see if the PC will boot. Then remove that stick and place in another and see if the PC boots.

Yes David remove one and reboot see if you can logon to the PC.

Then shut down and test the other stick on its own and reboot see if you can logon.

if i am to remove the hard drive and put it into a different desktop pc do i remove the hard drive from the new pc? and also will it not just have the same problem on the new pc?

You can fit the hard drive as a slave drive.

Do not remove the main drive from the computer.

On the hard drive you need to fit as a slave set the little plastic jumper to slave drive if it is IDE.Sticker on top of the hard drive will show you how.

If SATA just plug in the data cable and power supply and restart the computer.

Please power off the computer and remove from power outlet before opening it up.Touch power supply for a few seconds then fit hard drive.

Make a folder on the PC and then transfer all the files to it.

Do not open the folder untill you have scanned it with your AntiVirus as soon as you transfered them over.

After your PC first shutdown you could have some corrupt system files, a chkdsk /r from the Recovery Console often sorts that out.

So i tried reinstalling windows xp but i then recieved another blue screen stating:

If you get these errors when installing Windows - thats a full install I'm referring to, but its probably the same with a Repair install, the RAM is often the cuplrit.

I'd go along with JB's reference to a memory fault and recommend you do a Memtest to rule it out.
