Guest Kentucky Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Hi, I have installed the Server 2003 version of the Adminpak on Windows Vista 64-bit business edition and have noticed the following two problems: 1. In the MMC console I cannot add the administrative snap-ins such as ADUC, DHCP etc., just the standard snap-ins are available. However I can access these through administrative tools. 2. When I open the DHCP console I cannot see the leases or scope options, only the server options are visible. And yes, scopes have already been set up on the servers I am viewing. Is there a patch or updated Adminpak available which can fix these problems.
Guest Steve Goddard Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 RE: Adminpak on Vistax64 I believe there are some issues with x64 client support. Best words of advice is build an OS workstation that is the same level as the server you are supporting. -- Steve G. Guest Kentucky Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 RE: Adminpak on Vistax64 Steve, I can see your point that running XP will obviously be compatible, but in our company we are planning to move to Vista this year. Vista should be backwards compatible with 2003 generation Windows. You can mix Windows 2000 and 2003 on the same network, so why should this be different with Vista? Chris. You can manage a Windows 2000 Server with the Server 2003 adminpak on an XP client. You can manage a Windows 2003 Server with a Server 2008 adminpak on a Vista client. You need an adminpak that is newer than the client OS software for it to work. -- Kerry Brown Microsoft MVP - Shell/User http://www.vistahelp.ca/phpBB2/

It's RSAT and I believe it's still in beta testing but the principle is the same. Kerry Brown Microsoft MVP - Shell/User http://www.vistahelp.ca/phpBB2/
Guest Kentucky Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Re: Adminpak on Vistax64 Hi Kerry, I have found that installing Vista SP1 resolves these issues with the Server 2003 administrative tools. Regards, Chris. Guest fryejk Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Re: Adminpak on Vistax64 I found that after installing SP1 for Vista I could install Windows Server 2003 R2 Administration Tools Pack (x86) and get a lot of functionality I was missing. Haven't tested GPO tools yet.
