Ginny Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 My daughter has Vista Home Basic on her laptop. She also has the dreaded pyagcore infection. We have tried multiple things to get rid of it short of taking it to a PC tech. She cannot access the internet to download a cure. Yesterday, I installed the Defender Pro 15, but that will not even recognize it. How can a fix be downloaded if the internet can't be accessed on her computer? I have also attempted to delete it, but that doesn't work either. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Hi Ginny, welcome to free PC help. As you can see I have moved your question to here the malware removal section. Please be patient till Chiaz has seen you and he will advise accordingly. I will say also that you may need a USB memory stick to transfer files or programs downloaded on a clean machine, to transfer to your daughters machine. Nev. Ginny Posted October 24, 2009 Author Posted October 24, 2009 malware problem I seemed to have fixed part of my daughter's problem regarding not being able to get online. I deleted multiple yahoo programs (these were what was infected with pyagcore). That enabled me to get back online. I then reinstalled the yahoo programs, and now I can download the fix. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Hi again, thanks for that update, it means it will be a little easier to sort out, please wait for Chiaz, but in the meantime now you can get it online follow these instructions for Chiaz to inspect. Although you may have got rid of some infections, there may well be more hidden stuff. Trojans that can steal data ETC. Please download the latest version of HijackThis from Trend Micro and save it to your desktop. Download HJTInstall.exe to your desktop. Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install HijackThis. By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis . Click on Install. It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop. Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis. Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in Notepad. Include this log in your next reply. Notes: Do not use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted. Do not have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless, or required for your computer to run like it should. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help.
