no sound after re install

hello to all i am in need of some help i cant get any sound from my pc or my speakers i tryed to install new hardware ant these problems came up multimedia audio controler . video controller <vga compatible> drivers code 28 i think is this my prob any were to find these cheers the computer is a ebox with amd athlon 1.05ghz,480mb of ram with servis pack two if that helps thanks

Hi, this is exactly the same question you posted in the software section, OK this is perhaps the right place now, but you did get an answer and replied that you had sorted the drivers. Does this now mean you didn't?

Please give us exactly the make and model of your computer, the make of motherboard, if you know it. I gather you have windows XP Pro and it is up to service pack2, is that correct?

With the right information we can probably help you better.

sorry i have sorted the usb driver but not the other two the computer is home build (not by me) its a ebox computer running on xp pro with servce pack 2 how do i find the other information and thanks for your help

Hi, OK thanks for that, now we know it is a home build by some one else we may be able to go further. You say you installed some hardware that appeared to start this problem, what was that hardware?

Next we need to know the sound system type to help find the right drivers for that.

Click start, then run and type or copy and paste,

 

devmgmt.msc

 

then click OK or the enter key.

Scroll down the list to sound, video and game controllers, click the + in its box to open the list and let us know what is listed and if there are any red or yellow marks next to anything.

i tryed to download realtek ac"79 audio and it plays the song but still no sound i am using my philips 170b monitor for sound

Ok, you didn't answer my questions, but have you tested the speakers on something else to be sure they are OK?

How do you know it is an AC97 sound system? there are several different types of driver and we need to know exactly which version of AC97 it is, just any old driver won't work.

Ideally we could do with knowing the motherboard make and number, if you remove the side cover, there should be a small label somewhere on the board that could tell us that.

i have tred the run part the yellow item is still the video controller

the other parts under video /audio audio codes,legacy video capture devices, legacy audio drivers,media control,video codes,realtec ac 97 audio but none of them are yellow

i understand about the driver now cheers i opend the box up the only thing i can see on the board is sempron m863g if that helps any i have tryed the speakers on the monitor and they work fine thanks for taking the time to help

Hi, OK lets see if we can get the yellow mark you do have out of the way, go back to the device manager as previously, then double click on the item with the yellow mark, this should open another small window with hopefully a box to click to search for drivers.

Let us know what you find there.
