dark_princess_666 Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Hello everyone. I have a couple of questions about the connection adapter for my graphics card. I will be upgrading my graphiocs card to a NVIDIA GTX 280. It requires 2 power sources. 1x 6 pin PCI- E and 1 x 8 pin PCI-E cable. My Power supply has 1 x 6 pin PCI-E cable and I need to attach a 8 pin PCI-E converter to the molex connectors. The molex connectors need to be connected to 2 independent cables as shown in the picture below. http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu125/dark_princess_666/CONNECTION.jpg My problem is that I have 4 molex connectors on the PUS (2 on each cable). My questions are: 1) can i use these molex connector which i circled in the photo as I am worried that it might interfere with the power voltage to the graphics card. 2) can I use molex splitters as i need more power connections. Thank You in advance . Quote
Plastic Nev Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Providing your power supply will provide at least 550 watts as this spec shows- GeForce GTX 280 then yes is the answer as far as I know. The important thing is that the power supply (PSU) can deliver that wattage. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. dark_princess_666 Posted November 1, 2009 Author Posted November 1, 2009 Thanks for the comment Nev. I have a 800W PSU so I am not worried about the requirement. Just wanted to know if I could use the Molex connectors. Is your answer Yes to both questions? Thanks Quote
Plastic Nev Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Hi, I do mean yes to the use of those connectors, however, although I know power supplies, I am no expert on graphics cards, so as far as I know it should be OK. However, if you want to wait for a better opinion from one of our other tech people who knows more on Graphics that is fine, and I recommend that you do. Nev.
