We have two sub-folders under a folder that require write access for two

members to put and edit files. The rest of members are read only. Can

someone advise how to set the right for the share and the security of the

root folder and the sub-folders.

Thanks,

Scott

Re: Access right

Hello Scott,

There are always more then one way for this:

topfolder: share permissions, Authenticated users, FULL CONTROL

Security permissions, Authenticated users, List folder contents

Security permissions, Administrators and System, Full control

subfolder1: Administrators and System, Full control

subfolder1: groupsub1 (security group in ad, with the user accounts for READ),

Read and execute

subfolder1: groupsub1Mod (security group in ad, with the user accounts for

MODIFY), Modify

subfolder2: Administrators and System, Full control

subfolder2: groupsub2 (security group in ad, with all users for READ), Read

and execute

subfolder2: groupsub2Mod (security group in ad, with the user accounts for

MODIFY), Modify

Best regards

Re: Access right

Meinolf,

Thanks for your suggestion that lets me understand how to set the right for

this scenario.

However, this is just one of contents owner request. Within our small

company, the owners might have dozens. Is it possible to use everyone for

read and execute right since they have higher right in groupsubXMod? I

believe the higher right takes over the lower right, isn't it?

Thanks,

Scott

Re: Access right

Hello Scott,

If you use everyone for read, also non domain members are aible to read files,

so do not use that group. Authenticated users includes all users/computers

that are in your domain and you know them.

In file/folder security you have by default an inheritance, so the deeper

folder automatically takes over the right from higher level. But ofcourse

you cna uncheck the inheritance, to set your own rights without the higher

level.

Best regards
