jseibert5306 Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 hi, i have a laptop that runs windows xp proffesionally and it has wireless internet. the internet has been working up to two days ago. i have tried it out on two different routers in two differnt locations it comes up to the same thing. The message that comes up after the diagnostics is: Windows cannot connect to the internet using HTTP,HTTPS, or FTP. this is probly caused by firewall setting on this computer. check the fire wall setting for the HTTP port (80),HTTPS port (443) and FTP port (21) You might need to contact your internet service provider (isp) or the manufacturer of your firewall software. i have windows firewall and a firewall that is part of ESET Smart security system and i have tried to turn both off, i have turned both to allow HTTp, and i have tried safe mode w/ networking. ANY help would be appreciated Quote

snow Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Hi, First uninstall the ESET firewall completely. Re-start your system once you've done this. Now apply the winsock fix: WinSock XP Fix Freeware download and review - fix XP internet connectivity from SnapFiles Again, re-start the computer once you'e done this. Try to browse the web. RandyL Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Am I correct in that you have: Checked your firewall settings. Uninstalled ESET. Turned off the Windows firewall. Lowered your IE settings. Run the WinsockFix. Please be specific. Did you manage to do those things? Because when you say you TRIED I'm not actually sure that you DID. also i know it is a little late but this started after i tried to download adobe flashplayer Better late then never but this could be important. The more details you provide the more ideas people might have. Short one sentence replies for instance don't tell us much especially when you are not specific. Where and how did you try to download Flash? Was it a Flash update? What version did you have? What version were you downloading? Did it install? Did you check to see if you have the latest version? Did you check what version you had before? Was your ESET antivirus up to date? Is it enabled or did you uninstall that too? Have you tried hardwire connecting instead of using wireless? Have you tried connecting through your modem without a router? Have you tried resetting your modem? Have you checked with your ISP? Have you tried a different browser such as Firefox? Were there any marks in device manager that indicated a problem with the devices? Try opening a command prompt and type in "ping www.yahoo.com" without the quotes. Notice the space after ping. Press the Enter key. What does it say? I have deleted your last post for obvious reasons. Quote We are all members helping other members.
