LiamG Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 have some Folders on this PC from the old disk structure (The pc has been re-booted once) But im unable to delete them Ive downloaded ubuntu (linux cd) as i was told ill be able to delete them using this Problem is, i reboot with the linux cd in, i get the ubuntu menu, i enter use without changing computer but then im stuck on a loading page for agees and nothing happens?! Is the linux cd faulty or is there another error? It flickers through a ms dos type screen where i see error squashes or sumthin like that then proceeds to a screen where it says ubuntu with a loading bar then just goes to a blank screen with a little ubuntu circle loading but its stuck on that screen and nothing happens! 5 hours i left it loading for and nothing happened! Shall i try a different copy of linux? Quote
Jelly Bean Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Hello from South Wales. I am not the uBuntu guru but I would certainly try redownloading uBuntu and burn at a slower speed. Then retry the install. Did you burn the disk as an ISO? This is also an idea you may wish to try: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
LiamG Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 A Live CD is what ive got, I just burned it at the normal speed the infra reader is (was reccomended to burn using this on the ubuntu website!) I certainly dont get a desktop with "live cd session" on it! Quote
Tootech Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Try JB's suggestion of burning the ISO at a slower speed first. I have had a netbook not boot Ubuntu recently, tried two versions, so I guess some computers just don't like it. Try something like Puppy Linux or Knoppix, although Knoppix is perhaps a bit more tricky to use. KNOPPIX Linux Live CD Home Page | Puppy Linux Quote

RandyL Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I'm not a Linux user so I can't help you. I'm sure someone else will though. It's highly likely that Tootech or one of the others will reply when they have a chance to read. Quote We are all members helping other members. Jelly Bean Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Ooops did I forget about this one? Ok are you refering to cleanup the grub boot? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Tootech Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Sorry I didn't come back to you earlier. You should change the permissions for the drive to read/write. I am guessing you have the green ball over the drive indicating it is mounted. Right click over your drive, up to DIR 'sda2', and over to properties (mine is sda2, yours maybe different) Look at the permissions and tick the Write and Exec boxes for all user groups. Unmount and remount and you should be able to delete files. Quote
