Hship Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Hi, I have installed my copy of XP Pro SP 2 for quite a number of times on my current computer and activated it with ease and success until now. I went through the usual process, with fruitless results. I phoned Microsoft and they only suggested I buy a new copy of XP. I am not willing to purchase their same product again. What can I do to activate my software? Regards, Hship Quote

Jelly Bean Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Hello there. The first thing you do is choose activate via phone. Input the sets of numbers over the phone. If after three attempts you can still not activate then you are put through to support. If activation still fails they will then give you Microsoft Tech Support number. Tech support will help you out and should generate you a genuine key for you. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................

Hship Posted November 6, 2009 Author Posted November 6, 2009 Thanks for your reply Jelly Bean. I did all of the above and when I got through to the local tech support they said my code was invalid and I have to purchase a new Windows XP copy. Quote
Jelly Bean Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Did you actualy speak to someone on the phone were you input the sets of numbers or did they give you another number to call and you rang that number and they gave you the advice to buy a new license? I realy do not understand that there actual Tech support said to buy a new one as I have had many a new key generated for free. Unless they have changed the rules now? If they no longer will generate a new key then I am afraid to say it is purchase one. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Tootech Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Is your copy OEM, Retail or a Recovery Disk? Can you let us know exactly what is printed on the disc, and what make/model of PC you have. Thanks. Quote
Hship Posted November 7, 2009 Author Posted November 7, 2009 I spoke to a technical consultant at their head offices here in South Africa. The consultant just asked for my activation code wndows gave and she said that it an invalid code. I supppose they think money grows on trees, Windows XP is here, if you can find it, more expensive than what I paid for harddrive and motherboard together. Quote

RandyL Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Hi Hship; Is this XP disk the same one that came with your computer when you bought your computer? If not where did you buy it and was it sealed? Has it ever been used to install XP on a different computer? What is the make, model and number of your computer? Was your computer built and purchased from someone? If so where from? Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. Tootech Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Thanks for all the info. The disc you have is actually an OEM copy, not retail, so that does mean it can only be installed on one PC, the one it was originally destined for. This is where is says so For distrubution with a new PC only. For product support, contact the manufacturer of your PC. Where did you buy your version from? It is important to know the original source, even if you do have a genuine copy and COA. Have you previously changed any components in your PC and then reactivated? My own experience with re-activation is similar to JB's in that Microsoft are pretty good with XP, and I've never had an troubles unless there is a genuine problem. Problems are almost always is with XP Pro, not Home. The only other thing I can think that would throw it off is the time/date settings on your PC, they must be correct. It would be a good idea to check them. I recommend you hop over to the link below and post the problem there. Windows XP Genuine Advantage Validation Issues (Windows XP) Forum Quote
