Windows update rant..

working in photoshop ... tons of images open (busting up a graphic for web site - including buttons w/mouseovers)

 

corel open .. frontpage open.. multiple browsers open - basically just WORKING like normal...

 

all of a sudden - everything gets unbarebly slow...* ie waiting for* something to paste in PS takes 5 minutes.. not responding...

 

finally pastes.. phew - havent lost any work.. so why is everything slow all of a sudden..* runs adaware and spybot...*nothing/ still slow.

 

notices New updates are ready to be installed... ah ha.* when windows does anything with WU it basically cripples your machine..

 

so i click it - 6 new updates - 13 megs..** OK ill load it and get it over with.. 13 megs.. tiny right?

 

downloading 1 of 6* .......... 2 of six** for 25 minutes** (whole machine is crawling)* installing 1........2* another 20 minutes - gets to 5th update -- Photoshop is out of memory and must close - Explorer must be restarted.. whole thing bombs.. loose all work.

 

figure i should just reboot...** Logging out....** Configuring updates... another 10 minutes...

 

reboot (finally)* black screen....* (wait 5 minutes) its hung

 

reboot again..

 

Start windows normally

 

comes up...* Please wait

Configuring updates...* another 5 minutes

 

FINALLY the desktop comes up.

 

Notification: There are new auto updates available...

 

ARRGG!* you no where you can put your day disrupting, machine bombing, work losing updates?* i have a few ideas...

 

seriously - there should be a label - WARNING - these updates will take over an hour

 

it also just bugs me that when MS decides - it can almost cripple a machine till you load hem
