wales321 Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Ive got a hp s5128uk desktop. And im trying to render a video using sony vegas 8. Ive done this plenty of times before but now it wont start the render process, and then says that my memory usage is to high and to shut some applications. It says this even though vegas is the only program actively open, and before i use to be able to have internet, instant messanger and various other applications open whilst the rendering process was going on in the background. Even with no applications open it says the ram is running about 45-50% which i thought is pretty high. Any idea why or how to bring it down? i thought it would involve closing applications running in the background but none of these seem to be using that much memory Quote
Jelly Bean Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Hey Wales and welcome. I am unsure of this issue and hope the boys of the forum will chip in and help also. That is not to say I know nothing and the boys know it all. :D I asume your running Vista? I see you are running 4 gig RAM whne I checked your specs: Product Specifications HP Pavilion Slimline s5128uk Desktop PC - HP technical support (United Kingdom - English) So lack of RAM would not be an issue. What do you have your virtual memory set at? Change the size of virtual memory How much free space do you have on your hard drive? Try a disk cleanup. Click start/all programs/accessories/system tools/disk cleanup/check all boxes/click ok. Is all your RAM showing in computer/properties? wales321 Posted November 9, 2009 Author Posted November 9, 2009 Hiya, yeh im running 64bit vista home premium. And your right its 4gig RAM. virtual memory was set at 4393mb and 314gb left on hard drive. I will try the disk cleanup as well. Quote
Jelly Bean Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Could you CTRL+ALT+DEL and open device manager and see if there are any processes that appear rather high listed there? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................

Memory still at 45% though Quote
Jelly Bean Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 That is excellent, thankyou for the picture. Ok lets try msconfig. Click start and type in search box msconfig. Under startup tab uncheck items not required for startup. I noticed you have Cyberlink there.Daemon tools.iTunes.quicktime. Uncheck boxes that are not windows key proccesses and click apply then restart the computer. These could be items like MSN,Yahoo, printer software and so on. Then check your memory usage. And also check running proccesses again. http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/memory-issues/7172-memtest86-run.html Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
wales321 Posted November 9, 2009 Author Posted November 9, 2009 Cheers, that has reduced it slightly. I will look for what else can be unchecked. Videos still wont render but starting to think that could be a seperate issue anyway. Quote
Jelly Bean Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Mmmmmm I thought one of the boys would of chipped in with help by now. Ok videos often need Adobe Flash player update, have you updated Java? Lets see if there is any file association corruption. Right click on command prompt and choose run as Admin. Type in sfc /scannow and hit enter on your keyboard let it run and see if it comes up clean. Control panel>administrative tools>event viewer>application for any error report. also, video editing programs consumes a lot of cpu and memory.wat is ur system specification?do u try updating vegas.. I also suspect a plugin maybe an issue. Also possible cause is some types of videos you are playing. Try this: Open regedit.exe through the start menu search or run box and browse down to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/enableprefetcher.png Find the EnablePrefetcher key on the right-hand pane, and change the value to one of these: Disable Caching: 0 Cache Applications Only: 1 Cache Boot Files Only: 2 Cache Everything (default): 3 You’ll have to restart your computer before this takes any effect. You could consider clearing out the \Windows\Prefetch folder after making this change to start with a fresh cache, but keep in mind that the next boot will probably be slower since Windows will have to cache everything again. Plastic Nev Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Hi, one thing that hasn't been mentioned, what security software do you have? I mean firewall, antivirus, and any other antispy or antimalware. Have you considered there may be some infection. virus, trojan etc? Let us know if you suspect that, or if there are other problems such as unwanted adverts popping up etc. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help.
