GreyCell1988 Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Hey guys, got the weirdest of problems and frankly im insanely confused lol. Problem : When im playing games, with this new graphics card wich i purchased from amazon AXLE nVidia GeForce 9800 GT 1024MB DDR2 Graphics Card: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo I get this weird sorta like waves on my screen, its not like the waves you recieve when you have a lack of power wich normally leads to a shutdown, as i have 1000 watts power gaming supply wich i just bought today to hopefully fix this error, Its so strange, its llike upwards/downwards almost ripple effect waves that appear when im ingames, multiple games just for those who ask. I did send it back and got a new one as i thought it was faulty, to wich also does the exact same! tried it on another pc and there was no problems. I've downloaded about 5-6 different drivers aswell incase it was a driver problem, and no progress, also updated motherboard with 3 odd different updates, everythings sparkly up to date, so im totally puzzled. My cam is on charge atm so once its charged i will try and record a video of the problem and post it here so hopefully u can see what im talking about. I've attached my DXdiag to this post so ya can have a look at it. Any help would be much appreciated, as im bloody lost lol. Motherboard : Asus P5n-D Quote
Jelly Bean Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Hey there, the first thing I would be checking is cables and connections. Then check to see if it is a temp issue: SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
GreyCell1988 Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 Thanks for your response bud Checked all of the following multiple times, also due to getting a new PSU the cables wer changed, and checked over, all cables are wher they are ment to be etc and in good shape. I have that program got it earlier so let me check the results. Ingame - Dawn of war 2 Max settings attached Picture. Quote
GreyCell1988 Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 (edited) Uploading vide of the problem now, its not 100% clear but you can make out what im describing, upwards/downards sorta waves if you looke closeley enough, by eye ofcourse its a lot easier to see, its really very noticable. Will post video once it's processed. Edited November 11, 2009 by GreyCell1988 Quote
Jelly Bean Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 That would be great. I still wish some of the boys would popin and help me here. Have you tried in NVIDIA Control panel to configure the card? Could you check event veiwer for any errors generated? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
GreyCell1988 Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 haha the more the merrier bud. Ive checked event log just a sec ago, the only things that happened was a DNS error wich has nothing to do with it, and theres a system crash, wich was due to a power outage randomly....damn gf and her toast making :P. The Nvidia Control Panel is pretty crap i must admit, i've changed a few options in there none to wich have seemed to help at-all, and this is why im so puzzled lol, as far as i can see the card is compatible with everything i have, I've moved speakers, xbox external hard-driver, printers, pretty much everything on my desc incase they wer somehow interfearing with it but no luck, i've also took my whole motherboard out, checking that it was all connected in the unit properly and no connections loose and no abillity to transmit energy/signals across parts that are not to recieve etc, so im absolutely lost lol. Video's still processing, bare with me. Quote
Jelly Bean Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Was the card fine and only messed up after power outage? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
GreyCell1988 Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 aa the power outage didnt cause it, it was doing this beforehand, i got it like 3 days ago. My video is still processing, but i found this video of a guy with a 9600, who experienced the exact same problem, his video is very clear, and its exactly what happens with mine, however i've only seen/noticed it when im playing games, I'll try a few desktop colours to see if i can spot it in out of game mode, heres the guys vid Quote
GreyCell1988 Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 Just noticed hes ingame aswell actually, didnt see the bars at the bottom, so yea...exactly the same lol. Quote
GreyCell1988 Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 Okey!!! My video is up, sorry for the crappy quality is the best i could do, make sure you hit HQ on the right side to see it better, if you looke hard you'll notice the waves just like in the vid the guy had with his 9600GT. The game tested this with is Aion, this aint just the game, does it with all games. Quote
GreyCell1988 Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 Note: This occurs when i use the card DVI & VGA ports at the back. Quote
Jelly Bean Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Ok what CPU are you running? How much RAM? What make and model and size of monitor? Test your RAM: Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool See if we can rule out an issue. Now I know your running a 1000 watt PSU however do you have another compatible one you could test the system with? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
GreyCell1988 Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 I previously had a 950 wattage power supply also a gaming psu, same issue on that, I've tried it with my girlfriends PSU also wich is 800 watt cooler PSU, and the same issue. Monitor is a HP w1907 v 19 inch. Heres the info u needed, im going to also run that memtest tool. Thanks for all ur help m8. Quote

Jelly Bean Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Nice monitor there,I am running dual 19 inch wide screens. You know I am going to question that your CPU maybe the issue. Your running a dual core 1.86/2 GHZ. Your temps are fine, you have plenty of RAM. We can rule out PSU. I am just checking the minimum requirements you need for this card. 3D Vision Requirements Do you have a better monitor you could use to test or lets say borrow a decent 22/24 inch from a friend for a few minutes just to test? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
GreyCell1988 Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 I hear ya, The CPU i hope aint the problem, I've grabbed my gfs monitor wich is a different make/model, its a samsung 20†widescreen LCD monitor 2033SW - Essential - Monitors | SAMSUNG using the same kind of cable, VGA with DVI converter, same issue, and VGA to VGA same issue. So the monitor seems ok :S Quote
GreyCell1988 Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 used the HDTV also, with VGA to VGA, and VGA to DVI..still the same lol. Quote
Jelly Bean Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Have you always used the convertor.I dont trust them. If it is one of those you buy for a few quid they realy are not a good buy. I got one but only use it on a lower ended computer. Have you monitored your CPU usage during game play? Ok now your running Windows 7 and I am a little fuzzy on it. Have you run a Windows diagnostics on the system? Have you checked problem reports? What do you have DPI set to in Windows properties? Have you overclocked your RAM or the GPU? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
GreyCell1988 Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 Ive got a few aswell as a new one i got with this others i bought and they wasnt the cheapy crap ones i normally use the dvi converters so yea but without the dvi conv the vga cable does the exact same wich is odd my ram ismt oced and to my knowledge neither is the gfx card its brand new outa the box. Cpu during gameplay is fine doesnt really use all that much as an experienced gamer its about normal. Dpi error reports etc ill hav to check shortly as atm memtest is running bud. Quote
Jelly Bean Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Ok I have asked my Geek mate up in England (England eeew) his opinion. I will see if he gets back to me as soon as. I have asked him his opinion on your CPU and graphics card. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
GreyCell1988 Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 Thanks mate ill post my memtest results asap Quote
Jelly Bean Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 You are most welcome. Shhhh I am a miss lol. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
GreyCell1988 Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 Haha my bad :) memtest takes bloody ages lol 60% atm Quote
Jelly Bean Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Yes it doe take ages I know.It is ok while it runs I am making lamb chilly. :) I have asked one of the guys to check through your thread and see if he can come up with further help for you. Tootech Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 You seem to have covered all of the main possibilities already. I wonder if it is some kind of electrical interference - like a cable passing close to the GPU, or even a fan slowing down and speeding up affecting it. Also, have you changed any BIOS settings to accomodate the new card? Its worth setting the BIOS back to defaults and then changing just the settings you need to. Quote
