Sharing Printers in R2 DFS

Does anyone have any experience with sharing printers via a DFS target

in Windows Server 2003 Standard R2 SP2?

I know that the printer management was added and created some

functionality, but I am not finding any resources for sharing printers

in DFS.

I have several sites, and I would like to create a namespace (\\

{domain}\Printers\{site name}) where everone can go to find printers

withou having to UNC to their server.

Any tips on the subject?

Thanks!

Re: Sharing Printers in R2 DFS

I'm not sure about printers through DFS, but 2003 R2 does include the

ability to publish printers through group policy - you might be able

to use that to get where you want to be ...

Yes. Using R2 to deploy printers through GP is very easy.

Install the print server role on the r2 box. From those management

utilities you can assign a printer to a group policy object.

Also on that group policy object you will need to include

pushprinterconnections.exe as part of the startup script/logonscript.

You can find that exe by searching for it on the r2 box.

These are basic instructions but you can find better ones on TechNet in the

R2 features under Windows Server 2003 documentation.
