loonylondonlad Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Hi, I bought all of the components for a new pc a little while ago to build a new system from scratch. I installed all the hardware, and turned the machine on, and the power flickers on and off constantly, about 4 or 5 times a second. I figured it must be the power supply so I sent the power supply back and bought a new one. I have just installed it and the problem still occurs. I can't boot or anything. The LED's on the motherboard flicker on and off with the power. I can only imagine it is a problem to do with the motherboard as nothing else in the machine could cause this problem. It affects attached lights, DVD drive, fans, graphics card... everything. I have uploaded a video to http://www.tomstaples.org/VIDEO0002.3gp which shows what I mean. Please let me know what could be going wrong... I am desperate to sort this issue out! motherboard: gigabyte ga-ex58-ud3r power: cooler master 850w ram: 6gb corsair graphics: palit geforce gts 250 512mb Quote
Jelly Bean Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Hello and welcome. My first question is have you connected the 4/8 pin power supply connection to the mainboard? It is located towards the back of the mainboard. Ok reduce the RAM to one stick and try again. You can test the system by removing the CD/DVD rom drives and hard drive, you do not need them to boot. loonylondonlad Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 Hi Jelly Bean, Thank you for replying. I have removed the ram and still the same issue. The 8pin power is connected, as is the 24pin connection... Quote
Tootech Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Pull everything except the components required to run. No DVD drives, single stick of RAM, no case fans, USB devices etc. Try again. If you pull out all the RAM what happens? Does it do exactly the same? Also, does it fire up when you press the power button, or when you push in the power lead i.e. does it seem always switched on? Last question, what CPU do you have installed? Quote
loonylondonlad Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 i've tried pulling everything unnecessary out but still the same problem also tried pulling all of the ram out... the problem only occurs when i hit the power button... i.e. its not always on... cpu is an intel core i7 920 Quote
Tootech Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I've checked your board and both V1 and V1.6 support that CPU, so thats not the problem. You have confirmed your ATX 12V connector is ok. Its not memory or memory voltage related. Have you tried a BIOS reset, thats what I would do next. Quote
