robinsx200 Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Hi there, Thanks for reading my query. I am trying to upgrade a little girls computer so she can play games and go on the internet with it. It's an older eMachine and was running only 256mb DDR memory on it with a vacant slot. Details on original memory Samsung Korea H 0335 PC2100U 25331-2 M368L3223ETN-C80 256MB DDR PC2100 CL2.5 Ideal for a quick cheap upgrade I thought. Details on 2 new memory modules Samsung Korea PC2100R 25330-2 M83L6420DTS-C80 512MB DDR PC2100 CL2.5 However upon start up I get lots of beeping and no boot up from either or both new memory. If I reinsrall the original normal service is resumed. I bought the memory from a reputable dealer of ebay and have also contacted him, but is there a simple fix? Hope you can help me Robin Quote
Jelly Bean Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Hello and welcome. Possibly incompatible RAM or the RAM is corrupt. Run this scanner on the machine and it will tell you what is compatible and how much can be added and how much each slot can hold. RAM Memory Upgrade: Dell, Mac, Apple, HP, Compaq. USB drives, flash cards, SSD at Crucial.com The possible issue is you say older machine. The machine may only be able to support machine sticks of RAM.As in 2 x 256 MB of same speed etc. The scanner will tell you. Tootech Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 M83L6420DTS-C80 Can't find the spec of that anywhere - do you have any more info about it, or an ebay link to it? Also, what model emachines do you have? Quote
robinsx200 Posted November 12, 2009 Author Posted November 12, 2009 The ebay link is item number 350275960749 I've got to say mind, that I am totally astounded at how friendly and helpful this forum is! I'm a long time user of forums for many other interests and this is without doubt the best I have ever encountered! Thanks again Scanner results to follow soon... :) Quote
Tootech Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Your memory is ECC memory - generally used for servers, but not for desktop machines. If you can, send it back and get it replaced with non ECC memory, that will work just fine. If you can't get it replaced, you will need to buy non ECC to fit in your PC. Quote
