and says restarting xp setup..then reboots. I have tried the repair numerous

times with the same error. I have taken an image of the disk and tried on

another pc/hardware and get the same. I have tried chkdsk /r , fixmbr, and

fixboot with the same luck i cannot reformat as there are programs that i no

longer have. Please help!!

Disconnect everything but the keyboard, mouse, and monitor and see if it

makes a difference.

Re: Repair install continuously loops at restarting setup

I am experiencing the same exact behavior I did a repair install because I

could not get my keyboard or mouse to work (usb and ps/2 versions). After

the repair install completed I am now stuck in this never-ending reboot

loop. I've tried chkdsk, fixmbr, fixboot, etc with no luck. I am about to

re-format and do a fresh install but would rather not do that until I know

I've exhausted all possible fixes.

Would love to know if you were able to fix this on your computer.

It is unlikely that the Original Poster will be back after 5 days, so let's

address your problem. At this point, you can't get out of the loop.

Hopefully you backed up your data before you tried the Repair Install. If

you didn't, you may still be able to retrieve the data. Let me know if you

need instructions for this.

Otherwise, test your hardware first to make sure it's sound because there is

no point trying a clean install on bad hardware.

If the hardware is good, do a Clean Install.

Re: Repair install continuously loops at restarting setup

Thankfully I did do a backup first. I did not backup the Program Files

folder though so some of the program settings and configs will be lost but I

guess there are worse things that could have happened, right? The ultra

important stuff got backed up though. The computer is lodged behind a very

heavy desk and getting inside the case is not an option without making it an

ordeal. If the clean install doesn't work then I may have to suck it up to

crack open the case.

I'll start the deed now, thanks!
