My mate asked me to install windows 7 onto his acer inspire 6530 laptop for him and he assured me he had made a backup disc, (which i NOW know he hasn't!),

so i did a clean install of windows 7 onto it (formatted hdd when given the option)which seems to have gone on fine, but when i restart the laptop, up comes the acer recovery screen but wont let me choose any option other than exit, and when i click exit it restarts and we eventually end up back at the recovery screen and that's it that, all it does!

I had formatted most of the hdd (it was in 3 partitions) but had left 1 partition alone that said it had some acer program on it because i wasn't sure what it was that was on there. (might be the restore program?). i have downloaded all the drivers for his laptop from the acer site but cant figure out how to get them onto it if all i get is the restore screen!

any ideas as to how to fix it? should i reinstall windows 7 again and this time delete the remaining partion too? or is it F.U.B.A.R? (*****ed up beyond all recognition) .

i wish i had said no to him now, i foolishly assumed it would be SO easy to do!

I'm not 100% sure as I haven't heard of anyone doing exactly what you have done.

Good practice would suggest you do fully wipe the hard drive, so yes reinstall Windows 7, and this time totally wipe the hard drive of partitions.

Once that is sorted you will be able to install the drivers.
