Transferring Terminal Server License

I need some help/advice transferring TS Licenses from an old Windows Server

2003 server to a new Citrix server running Windows Server 2003. Below is a

detailed description of how our Citrix farm is setup and what is required:

 

We currently have FIVE Citrix servers running Windows Server 2003. FOUR of

these are Presentation Servers and ONE is the License Server (NOTE: The

License Server is setup as a presentation server but is not used as one).

 

We currently have the TS Licenses residing on an old server which was setup

before we went down the Citrix route. Currently the Citrix Farm is pointing

to the TS Licenses on this old server.

 

We would now like to move the TS Licenses from the old server on to one of

the new Citrix servers (preferably to the License Server) and configure

everything so that all the Presentation Servers know where to look for the TS

Licenses.

 

Could someone please explain to me in detail how I can go about making this

transfer? My major worry is that ALL the Citrix Servers currently have the

role of a Terminal Server. I know this may cause a problem because TS

Licenses can not reside on a server which has the role of a Terminal Server

(I may be wrong here as I’m not 100% sure about this)

TS (Terminal Server) and TSLS (Terminal Server License Server) can be

installed on same machine.

 

Steps to transfer the TS License from TSLS to another are,

1. Install new TSLS (License Server) on a different machine and Activate it

2. Call Microsoft Clearinghouse, they will reissue you licenses; Make sure

you have all paper work related to purchase of licenses

3. Now you can install re-issued licenses on new License Server

4. Make sure your TS (Terminal Servers) are able to discovery new TSLS

(License Server)

5. Uninstall the old License Server

Thank you for the reply and instructions. One other thing... once the

Terminal Server Licenses have been moved do I need to also move the Terminal

Server CALs? If so, how do I go about doing that?

Hi,

 

CAL's issued to client machines, will remain on client, finally they will

expire.

 

Steps I mentioned are to transfer TS CAL's installed on one License Server

to another License Servers.

Thanks for your help. I've managed to transfer all licenses but I'm a little

worried because in the Terminal Services Licensing Manager it's not showing

license's as being issued!

 

When I log into a thin client nothing is displayed in the "Issued To" box by

the corresponding license type.

 

Any ideas as to why this is happening?
