Hi, i am currently running Windows XP on my computer.

When i turn it on, everthing seems normal until i get to the windows loading screen, then it just restarts and gives me the options of booting safe mode, last good config etc. But none of them work, it just restarts again.

It doesnt come up with any error code or anything. So i think it may be some overheating problem or something. What do you guys think i should do?

Two common possibilities with this problem.

1) File system corruption

2) Failing hard drive

Have you powered the PC off at the mains without shutting down? That often causes it.

You really need to do a check disk from the Recovery Console.

Boot from your Windows CD, get into the Recovery Console and type

chkdsk /r

then press Enter

Let it do its stuff and restart.

That does cause a problem!

The forum can't tell you how to deal with password removal, theory being that you should know it on your own PC, and we have no way of telling that it is your PC - sorry.

The only other way I can think to run a chkdsk is to use a Live CD like BART. That will do it for you. Just don't use a Linux CD as the disk check utils they come with are not designed to deal with NTFS file system problems.

Final option, unless someome elese comes up wth an idea, is it do a repair install, so your system will run, back your data up and then reinstall Windows.

So do i reinstall windows now?

No you don't have to do that if you have an original copy of Win XP. If you do have a copy then I will guide you through the repair sequence.

Recovery discs from the manufacturer of your pc will not work. They will only revert your machine back to factory settings and you will lose everything presently installed.

If u can run in Safe Mode, goto Run -> type msconfig

in the start up disable all the startup programs and services and restart the PC..

sometimes it might work ;)

To left4dead.

That is good advice,

but the best way is to "go into msconfig"...then disable "NON" microsoft service, some service you need for system stability etc.

the startup tab you can pretty much disable all....temporary because this may knock of your anti virus also.
