Look, this chap has just smashed the world record by 80 days (congratulations to Mark!). Of indisputable assist, have been things like aeroplanes, ferries et al, even down to his bike. You can pay a small fortune to get a very good bike nowadays.

Why does it seem that it takes longer to realise a lot of software projects, when hardware and education are so much better? Mark has just trounced the record by 80 days. .NET does increase productivity but as a concomitance new technologies are being introduced, like WPF. We are still in the dark ages, as far as parallel computing is concerned, why is that? Is one being unnecessarily ungrateful and dismissive of the huge steps taken, unlike 'Oliver Twist' being greedy for the sake of being greedy?
