Hi,

OEM licences are for manufacturers and system builders.

The difference between OEM and retail is that retail means that in the event of having problems you can go to Microsoft for help. With OEM you go back to your system builder or system supplier.

If you buy OEM, don't expect to be able to call up Microsoft and ask for install or BSOD help :)

BTW - be careful what you buy, there are some good looking deals around, especially on ebay. The cheaper deals look good, but don't always activate. They were meant to shipped with new computers and there can be all sorts of problems.

I use these guys - you'll get the legit product there.

goodyear I would suggest you make or obtain the original Vista recovery disks before you install XP. Just in case for some reason he wants to go back to Vista that needs to be done prior to installing XP.
