Hiya all, I`m an old newbie.. Got a problem. Both my cd and dvd drives refuse to recognise discs. Tried an old dvd player but still no joy. All connections are sound. Could it be a bios fault? Any ideas any one?

Hi Kenny, and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help.

I am not sure about what you mean about trying an old CD player? was this a computer type similar to what you already have or do you mean something else?

However it sounds a lot like a filter issue, or a bad stroke of luck and both drives have broken at once:mad:

I hope not the latter, have a look in device manager first. To get there, click "Start"( Bottom left of screen) then click "Run" type in or copy and paste-

devmgmt.msc

then click OK or the enter key, look down the list for DVD/CD-ROM Drives, click the little + in the box, are there any yellow or red exclamation marks or question marks, and by which entry?

Nev.
