duggie323 Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Firstly hello and sorry if this is in the wrong section. I'm in need of abit of help and i'm by no means a computer wizz. Basically last week we had alot of electrical cuts, and now my pc won't turn on (I use a surge protector). Firstly, I would turn the computer on and if would get to the screen where it asks if you want to start windows normally or in safe mode etc, if i chose safe mode it would come up with a load of messages and then just freeze. If I chose start normally, it would go to the screen with the windows logo and scrolling blue bar, and wouldn't go any further. I replaced the cd/dvd drive and tried to boot with a repair disk with cd rom as first boot priority and hard drive as second boot priority, and would get the message saying disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter. Then I replaced the hard drive with a 300gb seagate sata drive (from a sky+ box) and tried with a windows xp pro disk to reinstall. It would get to the screen asking if i wanted to partition using ntfs or something or just keep the files the same? then say that setup has determined that drive c is corrupted and cannot be repaired. Sorry for the wall of text, but could the motherboard be broke? Thanks in advance System specs: radeon x1950 pro core 2 duo 2gb ram xp home asus mobo (not sure on model) Quote
maynardvdm Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Hi Then I replaced the hard drive with a 300gb seagate sata drive Was this a new hard drive? If yes you have to partition and format it first, before loading Windows, in fact Windows setup should do this. Quote We are all members helping other members. Plastic Nev Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 I wouldn't trust that drive as it has been in a Sky box already and may have been removed because it is damaged. The problem you have which is due to the power disconnection, may well have done damage to the motherboard as well, but first start with a good and new drive, the fact that it did at least give you a message that the drive is corrupt, looks promising and the BIOS is at least OK. so it may be worth a new hard drive, after all they aren't that expensive and once installed, as Maynard said, the Windows disk should then do all that is needed.
