Hi, All,:)

The problem that I'm having is, when i start my pc, after all the bios loadings. i keep getting the options of 1. Install windows xp.

2. Start up with the already installed windows xp.

This happened after my friend gave me a windows Xp disc that wasn't booting on his PC, so i tested it on my pc. After i went through the loading process of installing XP i cancel it at the option screen. but now i get the options at start up.

what can i do, to take the 1st option off, for good?

Som1, Please help...

Hi,

If your friend's copy of XP had already been installed on his machine it would be illegal to install it on yours too.

Do you have your own installation disk?

If so I suggest a repair install of windows.

If your friend's version of XP is the same as yours then you can use this - but if it is XP Pro and your installation is Home you cannot use it to repair your operating system.

Post back and let us know the situation re. your O/S and the installation CD available.

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

hi

i think the install has editted your boot.ini file.

can you post the contents of the file.so i can be certain what you can remove.

the boot.ini is in the root of your system drive..usually your C: drive..you may have to show protected operating system files...this is in tools>folder options.

please make sre you do not edit this your self accidently, this may make your PC unbootable.

hi

[boot Loader]

Timeout=5

Default=C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\BOOTSECT.DAT

[Operating Systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows XP Professional Setup"

you need to remove this line

C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows XP Professional Setup"

you will have to be in safe mode to save the changes....tap f8 at startup and choose safe mode...

delete the line above then restart all should now be ok.

post back if not....
