Hi, I am getting the blue screen of death when I try to start up my Packard Bell Easynote Laptop. To start with a black screen appears saying that widnows did not start successfully, a recent hardware or software change might have caused this.

It then gives me the following options:

safe mode

safe mode with networking

safe mode with command point

last known good configuration

start windows normally

No matter which one I choose I get the following message on a blue screen:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

and also:

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0x0000000A (0x00000000, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x804F9B94)

This happened a couple of weeks ago when I was downloading music. Everything seemed fine until I tried to open one of the songs and the computer shut itself down. When I restarted I got the messages/screens above.

I dont have a windows xp disc, i have had this laptop for 3/4 years.

Any help would be much appreciated as I have a lot of things (old photos, videos, uni stuff etc) that I need or would really like to keep.

Cheers

Hi,

This is either a overheating or bad RAM (memory) problem.

Once you receive the error, reboot and see if it will reboot correctly. If not a memory stick has gone bad.

hi

have a look at this

You receive a "Stop 0x0000000A" error message in Windows XP

look up the part regarding memory mismatches etc.

i agree the most likely cause is going to be bad RAM

how many sticks do you have installed.

if you have more then one, try removing one and retesting, if no good pop it back in and remove the other one.

try to determine which stick is bad

Thanks very much for your help Danzil. I am at work at the moment but I will have a good read through the link you gave me tonight and try to solve the problem myself.

Can I just double check by sticks you mean USB memory sticks? I don't think I had any installed when the problem occurred, although I'm not 100% sure as it was 2/3 weeks ago. I can't get in to check which ones work as I can't load up windows. I get these error messages as soon as I turn the laptop on, it doesnt even let me log in.

Thanks again.

NO not memory sticks (usb)

i mean the physical RAM, this will be inside your machine itself.

this will be either under the keyboard or on the underside of the laptop.

i will see if i can find a manul and have a look to be sure..

do you know how much ram you have installed in your machien at the moment....

i would first remove one stick from the underside of the laptop.

it will look like a rectangular circuit board with microchips on it....about 3inches by 1.5inches ish...

leave it with me i will find a ,anual and let you know for sure.
