cpw Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Hi everybody, Quite a few people have been experiencing problems with web pages hanging and not loading properly after upgrading their FreeAVG antivirus software from v8.5 to v9.0., this was down to a LinkScanner problem which AVG announced had been cured in v9.0.707. The cure however didn't seem to work in a lot of cases, including mine. AVG have now found the cause to be major conflict problems with v9.0 and the ZoneAlarm firewall. The AVG tech people are currently working with their counterparts at ZoneLabs to try and resolve the issue. Hope this info helps answer questions from anyone who's having the same problems I had. cpw. Quote

Trazza Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Hi cpw this is the setup I had on my pc.Free AVG9.0 and zonealarm firewall. I got rid of both and put comodo on but would really prefare AVG as I understand it better. Do you think if I put AVG back on with a different firewall it would work better? Quote
Match Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Do you think if I put AVG back on with a different firewall it would work better? Nope AVG Free is not good at all I would go for Avast or Avira, why have a second rate Antivirus when you can have a free version of what are recognised to be the best free Antivirus Applications available? RandyL Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 I totally agree with Match. Like I said before AVG Free not only misses too much it can't even remove everything it finds based on my personal past experience. And like Match said I've had great success with Avast and Avira when it comes to detection and removal. Quote We are all members helping other members. cpw Posted November 28, 2009 Author Posted November 28, 2009 Hi all, RandyL, this is a link the thread I started with AVG on this one. Unfortunately a lot of the info requested and sent had to be on email but there's quite a bit on forums.avg.com in the version 9 section. AVG Forums - Web page Loading Failure Trazza, AVG do say that v9.0 will work fine if you don't use the ZoneAlarm firewall. I don't know anything about Comodo and I'm not qualified to offer any advice on what the best thing to do would be. However, I've decided to keep my ZoneAlarm firewall and change my antivirus software to Avast! instead. Thanks everyone for all the helpful info. Col. Quote
Trazza Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 ok guys I am going to be brave and download avast and zonealarm and get rid of AVG. I just hope you will all be here with your advice when I need it. Quote
Skullion Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 My AVG 9.0 is working Fine,....but I do Not have ZoneAlarm. I tryed Avast but everytime I try to install it kept crashing. isn't Norton 360 the best Security anti virus online? Quote
Match Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 isn't Norton 360 the best Security anti virus online? No Eset and Kasperskey I would say are the best Paid closely followed by Avira and Avast. look round the forums and reviews and you will see that Norton has had issues with High resource usage, but apparently their latest offering is supposed to be better, AVG used to be good, but since 9 their free edition don't seem to so much prevent but inform you, and when it informs you refuses to remove it unless you upgrade. and personally I prefer prevention. not cure Virus Bulletin : VB RAP testing results Quote
Skullion Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Yeah I agree with you,....Hate having a free program then saying there's a virus but it won't sort it out unless you pay !!!! Maybe this is why I paid to get it sorted lol Quote
