Bootscrap problems

Hi, I have a Dell Dimensions E520 with XP home edition.

On boot up my screen fills with 0's with some dialogue.

I thought that it was my memory and added another 1G but this has not done anything.

I managed to read some of the code and was able to get into safe mode.

If anyone can help please.

At what point does the screen fill with zero's, is it the first thing that comes on screen or at some point after?

Do you hear any beeps and if so what order are the beeps in?

 

Are you sure you have fitted the right type of new memory, and have you tried with the old memory removed and just the new one in?

Hi, The 0's are as soon as I boot up the computer and there are no beeps.

I haven't tried to take out the old memory yet.

But I will try this.

I have taken the old Ram out but it is still doing the same thing.

When I first boot up the first screen "DELL" has blue stripes running through everything.

Hi again is there a possibility you can try a different screen on it, can you borrow one? I suspect there may be a problem with the monitor screen itself, so trying a different one, or trying your monitor on a different computer, will either prove me correct, or wrong :D
