hi there everyone, not sure if this is the right spot in the forum to post this but...

im on Plusnet for my broadband and connect my pc to the net via a Belkin wireless adapter and via a Thomson speedtouch 576 router

but 6 times out of 10, when i connect it will keep messing about and saying "acquiring network address"... ive tried using the microsoft thingy to "repair the connection" (sorry Im not very technical w broadband :( ) but it still does it

sometimes when i re boot it clears it, as it just did, but not always

Any ideas anyone?

Log into the router using 192.168.1.254 - use an ethernet cable to connect to the router whilst you do this.

Navigate to the Wireless Settings, change the channel selection from Auto to manual - say to channel 11.

Save the settings, reboot the router, reboot your 'wireless PC' - does it connect now?

hi

ok so if you reboot you obtain an IP correct?

have you tried setting a manual IP.

do this by going into the properties of your Wireless card control panel>network connections>

click TCP/IP then properties tick use the following IP

use some thing like 192.168.1.2

subnet mask = 255.255.255.0

default gateway = 192.168.1.254

dns same as default gateway.

this will work on that router,,,but if you connect to another router or access point you may have to tick obtan automatically

hope that makes sense.
