alfa155 Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Hi guys, I have a HP Pavillion pc tower, which is about 5 years' old. The problem is when I push power button on tower it opens up usual first up screen then windows so, but hen you hear the tower restarting and a black screen with writing comes up with ( we apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.) etc etc. It also gives me 5 options to restart pc, I have tried them all and I still end up with this page, what can i do to get my pc working properly again, as I am contacting you through my neighbours pc? ??? Best regards alfa155 Quote

danzil Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Hi Thanks TooTech.RandyL. grab that iso, burn it to a CD then boot from it. you will be asked to choose your Operating System to logon to...choose the relevant optio...(usually one choice anyway). then enteer your admin password (blank if not set). now tpye in chkdsk /f /r this will then run a test on your hard drive. YOU WILL NOT AT ANY POINT LOSE DATA. regards danzil. ps i will try and get back on tonight,, bit busy at the mo. Tootech Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Alfa, might be a daft question but did you burn it as an image ? Its possible to just burn the file to CD, that way won't work. You do need to burn as as ISO or image depending on what software you are using. Just need to clarify that before going any further. Quote
alfa155 Posted December 2, 2009 Author Posted December 2, 2009 Hi, I went to link placed black cd r in tray and it asked me if iwanted to save, so I clicked to save and then it asked me where so I clicked cd tray on friends laptop remember as I cannot get onto my pc tower, it took about a minute to save, then last night tried on my of and no luck... RandyL Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Hi alfa. If you have burned the file as an ISO or image file and it does not boot from it go into the BIOS and set your CD drive to first boot in the boot order. Save the changes and exit. To enter the BIOS on a HP computer continually tap either the F1 or F2 key at startup. Once that is done restart your computer with the disk in the drive. Hi Randy, Sorry to be a pain but how would I change this in bios to make it 1st Quote
muppet rebecca Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 Like he says on the first start up page you have to type a certain button like f1 but my computer is delete if that helps you. On the first page at the bottom in white it will say which button to press to enter the bios setting. As for which section it's in I can't remember but it might be in advance settings. Once your in bios settings have a browse through until you find it. Once you've found it you'll know straight away. Quote
