Wondered if anyone can help with any ideas.

I have Windows XP Home edition on my laptop and it wont boot past part of the checks it runs through so I am left with just words on my screen.

I have tried using my recovery disk to start again (all my important files are stored on an external hard drive) but instead of reading the CD it always tries to boot from the hard drive even when I have changed the priority to the CD drive.

What can I do to sort this out? Would appreciate any advice as I am stuck in the evenings when I dont have my work PC to do things.

Thanks in advance

Ezz.

Thanks Danzil, will give it a try with the bios thing though not sure how I will get to that. I will also try cleaning disc.

The laptop I have is an HP Presario. I had previously tried sytem recovery when I was having problems and could only get into safe mode but now cant even get into safe mode. What I realy want to do is is start from scratch by any means I can whether its reformating or whatever but can I do that if the only things I can get into are when I press F8 and F10?????

Still had no luck with my laptop. Tried cleaning the disc and changing the bios to no avail. The Laptop just goes so far on the load with words running down the screen and always sticks at the same point and stays that way until I do a hard close.

Any other ideas what to do or is it a take to somewhereto be repaired (if it can be?????)
