Trazza Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Hi , I am opening a new thread as the old one was to do with AVG. Today I have downloaded Avast antivirus and zonealarm firewall (both free editions) and removed AVG from my pc. I ran a thorough scan and it came back ok. What I need to know is can I set Avast up to run schedual scans or do I not need to do this. Quote
RandyL Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Avast HOME edition does not seem to offer that function. PROFESSIONAL edition does. See the link below. Other questions Doing a manual scan once in a while may be a good idea. As for me I only do it when I suspect an issue or am bored. But for most people I suggest scanning once in a while. By the way I am not currently using Avast. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. Match Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Resident protection (or “on-access” protection) Resident protection (the real-time protection of the computer system), is one of the most important features of an antivirus program today. Avast! resident protection is a combination of several parts or “resident modules” that are able to detect a virus before it has any chance to infect your computer. Taken from the Avast User Manual Basically it should not require a scan but should stop any Virus before it infects your system ;) however it's always a wise move to scan every now and again just to be on the safe side if you would like to read the manual you can get it from here avast! muppet rebecca Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I've used avast and I think the key is to just do a quick scan once a week only really do a thorough one if you suspect something. Saying that avast is pretty good at keeping infections a bay so you should be safe. Quote
