Match Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 I recently installed this, thinking i'd have a change from AVG, Did you Un install AVG first AVG Antivirus and Security Software - Tools download if not then try removing AVG completely first as running two Antivirus applications quite often causes conflicts that prevent them working properly. Match Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Did you Un install AVG first AVG Antivirus and Security Software - Tools download you never answered this question, if you just used the Microsoft Uninstall programs feature of windows then their is a high possibility that some files and registry entries were not completely removed !!! if not then try removing AVG completely first as running two Antivirus applications quite often causes conflicts that prevent them working properly. I'd advise you to do this anyway, as AVG 9 free edition will quite often allow your system to get infected then will not be able to remove the infection and suggest you upgrade to the paid version. where as if you use something like Avast or Avira it will prevent the infection, and remove any you may already have. Tootech Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 to be making like short scanning noises on my hard drive even when its not running scans No its not normal - its very quiet and unobtrusive in operation.....unlike AVG! Quote
muppet rebecca Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I agree you need to make sure that AVG has fully un-installed off your system even when you've used windows add/remove programs feature. You go into run > regedit and you'll notice that there might still be a couple of avg keys hanging around but don't do that if your not a confident regedit user. You'd be better getting a program like tweaknow power pack on the computer that can uninstall programs and clean the registry along with junk files. Another thing you would be better off with another av program and the person who posted about avast and avira speaks true. Quote
