Hi all ..me cousin has a dell pc dont know to much about which one as i have only spoke to him over the phone ..anyway he has recently got a virus he is telling me he has the blue screen and cant boot up he says he has tried safe mode and all the usuall things f8 f12 full power down ..was wondering if there was anything else i could do for him ..could i put a new hardrive in install xp then axcess his old drive as a slave to get his file back..cheers

Hi

Yes that is a possiblity but u would have to scan his old drive first..

tell him to plug it back in, boot to safe mode with networking (you seem knowledgable enough to tell him).

then run a eset online virus scan then a kasperky scan.

remove anything he finds.....

if not boot the same screen by tapping F8, then choose "disable restarst on system failure"

then let it blue screen.

tell us the error code,usually 000000x?

 

unless a lot more info is provided then i cant help anymore.
