Hi, this problem happen's on my mum's laptop running XP Home.

Once it's booted up, whatever key I press; when going to type something, results in some sort of folders or applications popping up, minimising windows, taking me to the desktop and the like happens. It's as if they are shortcuts; as if I'm holding down the windows key as well (but I'm not).

If I press the windows key it fixes it, but sometimes only temporarily. If I press down windows, ctrl and shift it works better. I don't know if the shift button is much help though because I tried just ctrl and shift and it didn't do anything.

The 'Use Stickykeys' box is unchecked and so is the 'Use shortcut' box for it too.

My mum thinks it's a virus but AVG only finds tracker cookies from random sites. She uses IE 8 and I use Chrome (used to use FF). While I'm asking this question, could you tell me also if it's her or me picking up these?

It sounds like you might have a keypad problem. Can you try an external keyboard to help determine this?

Tracking cookies are harmless and are a normal part of surfing the web. The following links should give you some more insight.

As for who is getting them it could be both of you depending on your browser settings but like I said it's nothing to worry about.

Hi danzil. I'll wait to see if this is a key pad problem first. If it's not then I agree that malware is the most likely problem.
