longdoggg Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Hello FPCH, This is my first post so please be gentle with me :D I've been given an old PC and am updating it for use by my 11 year old son. The PC has an ASRock motherboard with 1GB RAM and WIN2000 Prof OS. I installed an Edimax EW-7128g PCI wireless card last night. It installed fine and worked great. However, whenever the PC boots, it says there is a new PCI device and launches the install wizard. I reloaded the Edimax software several times and the Ralink driver software seperately. It still thinks I have a new device. It's not a big problem, just irritating. What advice can you guys offer? Cheers! Quote
RandyL Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Hi longdoggg. Just to confirm a few things and provide links for you and others who might be able to assist you I'll post on this. Edimax EW-7128g main page does say it will work on Win2000. If you scroll to the bottom you will see in the Download Area links that are zip files. Once unzipped or extracted you can open in pdf format the Quick Install Guide or the Manual which also contains the installation instructions. At a quick glance I noticed that when you first install it Windows will bring up the Windows New Hardware Found Wizard. When you see that you are directed to click Cancel. It's after that you should follow the instructions for installing the software from the CDROM. But you might want to print out the guide first. My point is that if it wasn't installed exactly as per the instructions then you may have to uninstall it and start over. If for some reason you don't have the install CD you can get the drivers from the download area too. Make sure you get the right ones if you go that route. RandyL Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 I wish I knew more on this but perhaps someone else does. In the mean time anything you can add or more detail would be benificial. Match Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Hi just a thought but did you let windows install the device through the windows installation wizard? If so uninstall it, then reboot the PC, when the installation wizard opens cancel it, and manually open the installation file. should be in the folder under setup.exe or similar. hope this helps but to be honest I have never used Win 2000 Quote
