wiggywoos Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Hi, I wonder if someone could help I bought an Acer netbook on 18th September 2009 and basically had problems with it from the start... initially it would just freeze now and then when I was online where I would get one of two screens either a blue one regarding hardware or a black on regarding boot disk, at first I could just undo the battery and restart before being able to use it again. However, last night it went to the black screen and switched itself off, I never thought anything about it as it was late and I just went off to bed. I have just tried to turn my netbook on and all it says is: Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 082) Copyright © 1997-2000 Intel Corporation For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller v1.0.0.13(2008/10/15) Check cable connection..! PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel PXE ROM. No bootable device--insert boot disk and press any key As it is a netbook I don't have a disk drive to insert a disk (not that I have a disk either) I would take it back to the store, but I don't have or at least can't find my receipt I'm not sure if I'm still covered by the shop or whether they are going to suggest I use their technical helpline (at a cost) I did orig take out the extra support but as advised by the guy at the time, just to cancel it after the 1st payment.... why oh why did I ever listen to this bloke considering he convinced me to both buy this and the extra help as well as convinve me to cancel it!! Please please please can someone advise me as to what would be best to do, I don't want to fiddle around with it incase the store refuses to help me even if they could.. Pretty please http://http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1632392534.1259873531@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccfadeimjfghlmcflgceggdhhmdfof.0&page=Product&fm=2&sm=3&tm=undefined&sku=369079&category_oid== This is the netbook and spec I believe lol x Quote
Match Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Hi Wiggywoos Ideally you should have started yourself a new thread but never mind will give the staff something to do ;) No bootable device--insert boot disk and press any key This sounds like the hard drive has died, and will need to be replaced, so you will ether have to pay, find the receipt or warranty, or pay somewhere to fix it if you don't want to attempt to do it yourself. if you did actually get it from a reputable high street chain store there is a good chance that if you phone there customer support they will be able to tell you if its still under warranty but as I just had a quick google to see whats involved in changing the HDD yourself I found this "No bootable devices insert a boot disk and press any key" Error Message on Boot TRY IT FIRST!!! Jelly Bean Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 Enter BIOS and under boot order set hard drive as first boot. Set CD/DVD rom to second boot. It appears you have set there to boot from network devices as first boot. Make sure network devices are set as last boot device or disable boot from LAN.
