I have had broadband access in WinMe for a year, and have also had a systray icon lighting up to show internet traffic. What I lack is a quantitative indicator, such as is visible in Status (in WinXP). Can I get that for WinMe ?

How are you connected to the internet, is it a DSL modem, router, or other means? If a DSL modem, some will give you an indicator of traffic flow and connection speed by a double click on its icon on the bottom tray.

Nev.

I have installed Windows, now how do I install the curtains? 😄

The PC with WinMe is connected by ethernet cable to a unit that receives wirelessly, which is located near the window at the other end of the room. The connection creates NO systray icon; I had found and installed a utility that mimics the icon in WinXP, in so far as it lights up one or other or both of two screen elements in a systray icon. UNlike the WinXP version, Status is lacking from the context menu of that icon.

HOWEVER

I have discovered that the out-of-date/obsolete firewall software 'Sygate Personal' that I had kept running, actually has a screen that displays both Incoming and Outgong traffic in both bar and graph form. But the read-out is instantaneous, not cummulative as in WinXP.

<<Why do you need a cumulative traffic meter?>>

I do NOT. I merely expressed an accurate difference between Sygate and WinXP's Status display, which

is more informative than merely instantaneous output and that extra info CAN at times be useful.

I have tried NetStat, and although it is supposed to run in O/Ss from Win95 to Win7, I can not get it to run in my WinMe.

I may check out Bandwidth Monitor and see what feature it has. Thank you for the referral.

Well, I'm still wondering what info you actually require in your utility, very cryptic

You've got me with that juxtaposition of quotes. I can not be more specific than to repeat that a cummulative display gives more info than an instantaneous one. I think there have been times when that came in handy - and that could happen again. For what it is worth - I will stick with the Sygate output until such time as I find an urgent reason to know more.
