I understand that this may of been answered somewhat elsewhere, but I've looked and there doesn't seem to be a solution that directly relates to my problem, so here it goes.

My computer is pretty old, it has windows XP professional.

I searched the web one day for solutions as to how to clean up my computer and help it run quicker. I came across this post on Yahoo Answers that said to do things like clean temporary internet files, delete this programs cache, uncheck some things so they don't run on start-up. Things like that. They saiod deletge the temporary internet files folder and delete everything inside the program cache folder. I'm guessing this is the cause of my problem.

So I did this, when I turn my computer back on I get the "Disk Error, press any key to restart' So I press it and it says Boot failed insert boot media (something along them lines) and press any key. So I press this again, and it says Disk Error.

Ive seen a few solution such as change your first driver, but I changed my first driver to several things on the boot menu and none of them worked.

I'd really appreciate some help on this.

Btw, please don't refer me to another similar post unless its directly related to my problem because I've tried solutions for other similar problems before.

Thank you in advance.

Alright well basically when the computer is starting up it says "Disk Error, press any key to restart" Once I have pressed a key it says "Enter boot media (Or something like that) Then try again" I do this and it goes back to "Disk Error, press any key to restart"

So essentially, my computer will not boot.

My computer... Erm it has 512 ram, with pretty low storage.

I know the processor is AMD Athalon but I can't remember any other details.

Also, when I click any key and try several times to get it to boot, it sometimes does so. Once it has, it comes up with a blue screen and windows checks the disk which takes forever, this is exactly what it says at the minute.

Checking file system on C:

The type of the file is FAT32.

Oneof your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You may cancel the disk check, but it ids strongly recommended that you continue.

Windows will now check the disk.

Volume serial number 073D-1ADD.

Windows is verifying files and folders...

Windows replaced bad clusters in file \nt1dr of name (null)

Windows replaced bad clusters in file \hiberfl.sys of name (null)

13 percent completed...

Once that has done it starts normally, though noticeably slower.

But after I shut it down and go to use it again, it says Disk Error and starts the process all over again.

I hope that has given you more detail.

Thanks.

Ok so it worked all last night after Windows checked the disk.

I turned it off, then turned it on the next day.

This time it didn't say "Disk Error" but said...

"Searching for boot record from IDE-0... OK"

But then just stays on that, nothing else.

Is this a glimmer of hope,or is my drive still doomed?

Others may input however my bet is buy a new hard drive and IDE cable and then reinstall windows.

As you appear to be having a lot errors for the drive.
