Toolbars: Advice Please

Recommended Posts

I am seeking to clear my desktop of items I use daily.

I am considering using Tololbars to organise the items in categories and

locate the toolbars around my desktop.

I am seeking to gain a clearer understanding of Toolbar behaviour.

When I right click the taskbar, and create a new toolbar everything is fine.

If I choose to remove the taskbar, I right click the taskbar, and uncheck

the toolbar.

Question 1

What happens to the toolbar when it is uncheck in the taskbar listing, can I

recheck it to enable....or am I permanently removing it and need to recreate

it.

.......this would annoy me as If I go to the trouble of creating a toolbars

and want to temporarily disable them.

Question 2

Can I only add folders to toolbars?

Can I create toolbars with Word and Excel documents on them instead of

folders?

Question 3

Any additional suggestion regarding Toolbars and heir use would be

appreciated.

Thanks in advance

You can reenable them by putting the check mark.

Folders and Files

Question 3

Maybe you want something like creating a toolbar on the taskbar to contain a

shortcut that would open MS Word and word files. First create a folder

perhaps on your Desktop naming it Microsoft Word. Copy the shortcut of MS

Word to the folder then put some word files on the same folder. Then,

rightclick the taskbar > Toolbars > New Toolbar > On the New Toolbar box

choose Microsoft Word folder > OK. The toolbar will appear on the right of

the taskbar. You can drag the toolbar to the desktop if the taskbar is not

locked and perhaps right click on it and choose autohide. The toolbar will

then hide and will appear when you hover the mouse cursor over it. The

program and and files opens at a single click rather doubleclick. When you

rightclick on the taskbar the tool is added to the toolbar list where you can

enable and disable it.

RE: Toolbars: Advice Please

Hi Rey,

Thanks for the answers and expanation.

I have created tollbars but when I disable them from the taskbar right click

sub menu, they are no longer listed on on it, so can't re-enable them. What

might I be overlooking?

Hi Dermot,

Good idea :-)

Your questions have been answered already, so I only would like to point

you to the freeware "Free LaunchBar" ( http://www.freelaunchbar.com/ ).

It´s highly configurable and has a big advantage over the built-in

toolbars since it lets you create submenus. Folders within a usual

toolbar, in contrast, will open up as new windows and have to closed

manually :-(

With the submenus of Free LaunchBar, you only need this one toolbar

because you can group items within a submenu. This should help keeping

your desktop tidy.

Have fun,

Hi Dirk,

Thanks for the link.

The only question that wasn't answered previously is this one...........

When I disable toolbars from the taskbar by right clicking and unchecking

the toolbar in the sub menu.............no problem here.

Question

The toolbar is no longer listed on the sub menu to recheck....., so can't

re-enable. them.....what am I overlooking?

Thanks in advance

This is very strange and should not happen. Sorry, but I have no idea

why

it does :-(

Re: Toolbars: Advice Please

Your "toolbar" is actually a folder, just click "New Toolbar" and then

"pick" it again.

Re: Toolbars: Advice Please

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the explanation.

I did create the toolbar from a folder.

How do you create a toolbar that would remain an option within the taskbar,

contect menu to check or uncheck?

Thanks in advance

Re: Toolbars: Advice Please

You're welcome, I suspect you would need to do a bit of registry

editing, there is no utility native in XP to do it. You might try

TweakUI in MS Downloads, or someone else here may know.
