marbles Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 (edited) This sounds odd, but several hundred files have disappeared from about 40 - 50 different directorys sometime in the last month - strange thing is that all directories still contain filenames beginning with the letter A - F, but anything starting with the letter G - Z have disappeared. Have run trend micro and AVG - neither have brought anything up. Have run recovermyfile, which found no trace of the missing files. Files are on a laptop, which synchronizes to network, so the network ones have gone as well. A lot of work lost and a lot of history, but main concern is that it can happen again if dont find out why. This cannot have been physically done without a lot of time and effort. Any suggestions - can only think that some external influence eg virus etc. Edited December 9, 2009 by marbles Quote
Jelly Bean Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Hello there. i noted you have AVG there. If AVG finds an infected file it locks it away in the fault there for it appears the file has been deleted/removed. Check in AVG history to what has been listed and quaranteened. Also pay a visit to our security section as it appears possibly you have malware. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
