Win XP - Windows Easy Transfer - HELP

Recommended Posts

I've bought cable to connect two computers (notebook<-->PC) Easy

Transfer Cable for Vista (Laplink). The cable doesn't required

any drivers because use a Windows tool "Windows Easy Transfer",

which is included in Windows Vista. When I connect the cable to

my notebook with Vista PL (Polish), everythink's OK but on my PC

with XP PL (Polish) is a problem because XP doesn't have this

tool "Windows Easy Transfer" and required is install this tool.

I found Windows Easy Transfer on the Microsowt web site but not

in Polish language, so I download this with English language.

When I try to install this I see this communicate: "setup cannot

update your Windows XP files the language installed on your

system is diffrent from the update language".

And I can't use this cable on XP because XP wants driver for USB

Cable Connect. Adn will only work with Windows easy Transfer

tool.

So what can I do ??? Please help !!!

Re: Win XP - Windows Easy Transfer - HELP

Have you tried using a "Cross Connect LAN" cable?

This is a special type of network cable that allows two computers to be

directly connected. (A network of two computers.)

You then use Windows Explorer to map from one computer to the drive(s) on

the other computer.

File transfers can go quite fast.

Use File & Settings Transfer Wizard. Transfer files via USB key or burn.

AFAIK, FAST is not compatible with Vista.

Yeah, I know. But I use LAN Card to internet. So this port is busy. I must

use the USB Transfer Cable. I can ask Microsoft but one question is very

expensive.

Have you other any ideas what can I do?

Re: Win XP - Windows Easy Transfer - HELP

I can wait for SP3 PL for XP. Maybe SP3 have included Windows Easy Transfer

or any solution for this problem. Questions for Microsoft Technical Support

are very expensive so it's bad idea.

Have you any other solution?

Re: Win XP - Windows Easy Transfer - HELP

No, SP3 contains some new functionalities for XP that relate to Vista, but

they are networking functionalities so that XP SP3 and Vista work together

more seamlessly in a networking environment. There is nothing in SP3 that

has anything at all to do with Vista's WET and there is nothing in Vista SP1

to address XP's FAST wizard.

I assume the cable you purchased is specifically for WET, like this one from

Belkin. You seem to be saying that. Other cables don't work. It is a very

specific thing.

First off, if you haven't done so already, you might want to post this question

to the Vista general newsgroup. There are probably more people viewing that

newsgroup who have done what you're trying to accomplish.

That said, the easiest way to run Windows Easy Transfer on your XP system is by

using a Vista installation DVD. I'm guessing that your new laptop did not come

with a Vista installation DVD. If you can borrow one from a friend, do so.

If that's not an option, the next question is did the Easy Transfer Cable for

Vista come with an installation CD? Have you tried running that CD on your XP

system?

The only other option I can think of is to run Windows Easy Transfer on your

Vista machine and select a transfer method other than the Easy Transfer Cable.

Click No when asked if you have the cable. Answer "No, I need to install it now"

on the next screen. You should then have the option to place the files needed to

run Windows Easy Transfer on a CD or a USB flash drive. Hopefully, you could

then take the CD or USB drive to your XP computer and continue the transfer.

Keep in mind that since I've never used an Easy Transfer Cable, I can't

guarantee that the above procedure will work. It's a lot easier to make the

transfer over a network.

Good luck

So, only what can I do - install Win XP in ENG language or wait for

translating Windows Easy Transfer tool for XP to Polish language. I have

right?

I think you should ask the Microsoft local office for your region. If

localization is blocking you then the local office can best advise you.

Yeah, I know but how I sad it's very expensive. One question for Microsoft

Technical Support cost 37 EUR (55 USD). ONLY for ONE question. So, this cable

was cheaper :-)

I'm not talking about MS Product Support Services. I'm talking about a

Microsoft Local Office in your region.

Re: Win XP - Windows Easy Transfer - HELP

Correct. Your region is Poland. That's where you get the answer for your

question concerning Polish language support for WET, which is what you asked

about here. Someone here may know but they haven't replied so ask the LO.

If they don't know the answer immediately they will get it for you.
